It is comparable to slackware as I says on the website and for many yas i have wanted to use slackware. So i want to install it on my pentium laptop that I got in 2020. I want to run zoom on it with screen sharing.
Can I do that? I can use antix linux on that laptop frthe same purpose.
You can try running it via LX zone (Linux compatibility) but I would consider it a very far stretch. You might be able to make it work via browser but I don't know the situation there.
Would that be a question of using dd to write the iso to a USB stick, or are we talking about burning the iso to a DVD, booting and installing to a USB drive?
PS: Thanks to Peter Tribble for providing this system.
Edit: I've just downloaded the basic (Tribblix 0m40) iso, dd'ed [see below] it to a smallish USB stick and booted an old Thinkpad.
Boot succeeded and I was able to log in to the minimal live session. Haven't done more than that yet.
Installed on the Thinkpad T60 using the 'kitchen-sink' option to the install script following the instructions on the tribblix Web site. Left the USB stick in and rebooted and it did some first run stuff (you have to leave the usb stick plugged in at this stage).
Edit: To use a wired connection (e1000 driver on Tribblix) you need to have the network cable plugged in when you boot the usb stick. If you don't, then networking does not get configured.
The xfce desktop installation is quite nice, with emacs, vim and helix editors and Abiword/Gnumeric. Palemoon and Netsurf are available as graphical Web browsers.
Sometimes it is good to try something that works on a different basis to what you are used to - the contrast illuminates (lol) what you usually use.
Well these are well written security vulnerabilities with reproduction steps. It's hard to tell if it's an AI discovering or a user using AI to find issues. But suddenly, I'm having an influx of issues where-as for the past 5 years, I received maybe 5. Just this month, I've been hit with 5 low effort vulnerabilities (all very small, unlikely to expose anything of value).
But it's very hard to maintain these in addition to the release work.
Same here, I too feel the same. I don't look as if I am neuro divergent but I am slightly and have radar for others and have begun to tell people, "that person is not late or slow in the mind but that person is simply a neuro divergent and needs to be given chance or looked at differently" lot of neuro divergents have been discriminated against in the past. My one professor used to ask me, "Are you on drugs". No I never have. It's just lack of sleep in college days can otherwise make my lucid brain super foggy
Haha, I can relate. I was once straight up asked if I used cocaine by my caretakers when I was 16. I was simply sleep deprived. And needed sleep bad. My neurodivergence mostly manifests as a sleep problem, in terms of it being a clinical issue. In other areas of life they are simply quirks.
To get the whole discussion of “I have seen this behavior before. I know an addict when I see one”. It was embarrassing. And then to hear “you’re 16 and acting out your puberty”.
Adults are silly sometimes when they are convinced of something, and fucking persistent.
How can a fresher get job when he or she doesn't has any network. Only option is through showcasing their projects but how many hiring managers would be interested in their area of interest
Start your own company around a project idea (or at least the website for one). This will force you to show off what you've done and that you have a basic understanding of how a business works, and it might be enough to get through the recruiter wall. If you spend enough time on it I don't think anyone would blame you for putting it on your resume. If you accidentally find a paying customer, all the better.
It is definitely getting tough in the world of AI and just fierce competition, especially with these dwindling opportunities for graduate or entry level roles.
I think the best chance these days is to have a targeted set of projects that is tuned for small businesses where you can easily reachout to them via Linkedin or similar social channels.
It has to be tailored projects using real data and services like AWS or GCP anything that can be built on top of real life usage in companies will help alot.
With this, you can get a chance to reach out to people in that company that doesn't have to be the hiring manager, just someone that can put a good word in to get you in.
The article is paywalled so I couldn't read. But my observation as an Indian is that for a few the salaries have sky rocketed. But for most income has declined or is stagnant and combined with inflation there is certainly a dampener on financial freedom. The govt never gives us lucid figures as to how the economy is growing and how much govt funds and effort of govt agencies (India is run by various govt agencies masquerading as business corporations) are diverted to the intense enrichment of the top 100 super rich.
A very ironic Indian scenario is that the national census that is going on they ask what company broadband service I use, which company tv I have I have what is my fone number. What is my religion. And the names of my family members. They ask all kinds of privacy defeating questions. But they never ask any health related issue. If my family is suffering from any health or financial distress. Even our census is an excercise in snooping on citizens but the action points that the govt could take those are absent like:
1. Have you been harassed by any govt official (I have not been recently)
2. How do you look at sanitation in your area (it's fine in my area)
3. Do stray dogs pose danger to you (Yes Yes Yes all the way. They are often in packs of 4-8 dogs and are very aggressive especially to women and children and to people walking alone. Walking alone in India is lost due to stray dogs in residential areas)
4. Is your family in health distress?
5. Is your family going through financial distress in the past 2 years?
6. How do you perceive corruption in India?
7. How do you perceive competency in govt agencies and programs?
8. What's your take on pollution.
9. Any thing that you want to suggest to change in India?
You are correct in class 9 physics book in India we have a mention of supersonic planes producing a sonic "boom" so the suprsonic planes don't themselves explode but their fast movement makes the air produce the boom. So you were correct as far as I can tell. But meteors do get smaller and smaller due to extreme friction from air and they do break into several pieces so that can also add to the sound.
Is Fast Mail having human support? Suppose I forget my password or suppose fastmail somehow bans my account then is there a readily available human on the other end whom I can message or talk to. Recently on HN someone posted about a school which lost its 10 years of Google apps data and account with no possible recourse.
Sorry for not offering any solution but for the future the adage that I learnt while working in a bank in India is, "Online means double work, i.e. don't stop making hard copies of each and everything you do online"
Backups should definitely have been "a thing" with them. I don't handle their IT support (I'm just the dad of a kid who went there 5 years ago), but I've already made some recommendations re: offline backup.
Since I don't use Google's products personally I haven't kept with the state-of-the-art in backup for the Workspace product. For my Customers who use Microsoft 365 I'm using the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 product for this kind of situation. I guess I need to research the kinds of analogous offerings for Google Workspace.
