TIL there has been some drama about Organic Maps, what is the difference between OM and CoMaps?
Left from Maps.me to OM because of drama and intrusive features, do I need to leave OM for CM?
edit: seems CM shouldnt have that annoying gift icon
edit 2: CoMaps doesn't display (colored) hiking trails, so completely useless compared to Organic Maps, also can't even display tram lines after tapping on tram stop in Prague
what's the point of the fork if it's missing basic features of the original app? it can't even display tram lines when tapping on tram stop...
and let's not get into making fork of a niche map app of a fork of a niche map app, already Maps.me was very niche app, Organic Maps even more and they make another fork because of their feelings about something?
I do usually this, but recently on older phone (using it temporarily while I buy new) I had to reinstall it and found out, it didn't provide any word suggestions for ant language other than English and even gesture input for other languages didn't work, so at least during initial setup it must have (now?) internet connection most likely to download dictionaries (I thought they used to be included in past, never noticed this before), after allowing the connection, setting up and then disabling the connection, it works fine
it should be possible on Sony and OnePlus phones and maybe other brands, though it can require obtaining code from internet on other device, but the device being unlocked itself doesn't need to have internet connection
I think LG had a system for getting unlock codes as well, but they closed it a long time ago.
Any other manufacturer may alter the deal any time. In case you have such a phone, dear reader, consider getting your code if you still can even if you won't use them yet.
I was serving (mandatory) in military in my home european country, guys at our guard platoon desk were listening radio talking about some crashing plane, I just went outside the barracks in my spare time to netcafe to do some surfing and just noticed in news sites talk about some plane crash.
When I came back I've noticed we have suddenly CNN channel instead of our regular local TV station (they switched from regular programming to airing CNN live) with South American telenovelas (the guys watched it for pretty babes, I stayed usually with clerks around computers in captain's office playing games or chitchatting).
Then in the evening came barracks chief (don't remember position, I guess Mayor) telling us we are on high alert (though we didn't understand what have something in US to do with us in small european country, not even in NATO back then), we had to double guarding strategic objects (we were nearby NPP and also ammunition storage in forest).
First night after attacks I've spent on night shift next to fax to receive updates, luckily nothing interesting came and WW3 occured and we just continued with doubled guards for some time, which was actually better for the regular soldiers (not for me - office rat doing clerk work helping professional soldiers in office with paperwork and I had to go actually guarding 24hr shifts instead of sitting at computer and sleeping in our own more comfy clerk room), at least you had someone to talk to while doing your 2 hours round in cold forest. In the end they didn't prolong mandatory conscription (many were afraid they are gonna do it because of this) and we finished on time at the end of next April.
I doubt if I were not serving in military during 9/11 I would remember this day in such detail as European not affected by it (other then annoying heightened airport security later).
shame they don't have information on Rush/Rush F1 variety pepper, which is the most common as cheap (230g/1.2-1.5EUR) spicy pepper in Czech supermarkets (besides pickled jalapeno peppers carried by Lidl for under euro for jar)
Some of my clients use the LLM to do QA on my translations, dunno about English, but for smaller languages (think less than 10M speakers) LLM still ain't that good, at least 5-10% LLM suggestions contain hallucinated made-up words which don't even exist.
I can see LLM usable for long paragraphs of text, legal documents, maybe even books if you don't care about artistic quality, but good luck translating software/UI with short strings with hardly any description/screenshots even human has trouble to figure out let alone dumb intelligence.
I already told one of my clients who work for one of the major Chinese companies I can't guarantee quality of translation if they don't provide me variables description and all screenshots are in Chinese, so basically you are blind whether you are translating button, toast with instruction for user or page title, but seems client doesn't care...
Nowadays I don't even bother explaining why are AI reports wrong, it would be huge waste of my time, if 99% are FP.
it is much easier just to set up accessibility color filter and then toggle greyscale mode with Winkey+Ctrl+C and you can keep using your apps without installing anything
