setting up an interesting baseline for what the next administration is going to get away with.

as always, the ugliest frame possible.

lol

They're already running at a significant loss. giving out more free stuff isnt going to help.

What they really need to do is charge what it actually costs them. That will slow down the abuse a little.

That will also make it entirely unfeasible for anyone to use their services. The cost of the tokens you could burn on a $200 plan is in the neighborhood of $1200. They're getting users now and gambling on the cost of compute (or the difficulty of compute) dropping precipitously before they run out of cash.

absolutely agree.

I think what will happen is you'll get 3 or four "Tiers" of AI.

Tier 1: Big Corpo's, Govornments and soverign wealth institutions. Top of the line and dangerous AI, very likely to be abused and used to enrich the already powerful.

Tier 2: Enterprise level AI, Rich local Gov and rich individuals might have these. maybe also SAAS providors will tap into this. Functional but not really smart like Tier 1.

Tier 3: Community AI. Small business etc will use this. basically automated orchestration

Tier 4: Home AI.

I think this is where we're headed. and this is of course after the bubble pops and we get an economic crash because of the popping. (other events going on in the world and various economies and political scenes.)

Fedora is in a few months I think. currently on 7.0.12

it sort of makes sense, if the need for that compute is in space and not terrestrial.

In my mind its the same sort of thing as mining in space. it makes no sense to mine ores in space for delivery to earth (unless its something exotic that you cant get on earth). Mining in space is best used for manufacturing in space (and furthering building in space)... then the cost benefit ratio suddenly flips hard in the "worth it" direction.

Yeah, there are some established needs for compute in space (edge processing for large datasets collected in space, and autonomous spacecraft control) that already happen to some extent and will happen a lot more with greater volumes of EO/SSA data collected and increasing militarization of space. They just don't look much like a datacentre for inference compute

cooking the proteins in your blood stream will put you to an end very quickly. (but not quick enough that you dont experience the horror and pain of it)

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

I'm convinced this is going to be the summary of the 2020 decade...

To be fair, they did stop to think if they should. The decided that they shouldn't and went ahead and did it anyways.

If we're in a simulation, maybe it's a simulation about the dangers of AI.

If we're in a simulation, we are AI. But someone could be studying what happens when AI makes its own AI.

They will 'soon' (few 1000 years max) shut us down probably.

This one of the places to manufacture the consent for that to take place, because we are commenting within an organization that has given the money to ensure it that what could be is done. Most people clapped and made money, who cares what happens next, making money is the only good that matters.

sounds like my day to day job experience.

Last man standing monopoly.

if cutting prices is the definition of the race then its a race to the bottom.

These moves will only accelerate it.
