Google (and other labs) wanted to keep the tech internal because of the obvious safety concerns. Once they were confident that the tech was understood and under control, the public could start being drip fed. Everyone on the ground back then was hyper cautious.
Then Altman made ChatGPT public, and the race began.
It's just amusing reading all these posts with different viewpoints, just in this thread there are multiple people saying 4.6 was so much better than 4.7 and that they switched back to 4.6.
I also find it amusing. I also heard a lot of "4.7 is garbage, everybody hates it". Shows you how important proper validation techniques are, not just gut feeling.
Can confirm what others have posted, i tried some random snacks/sweets in some of the 711 stores in Japan and they were really good, for some reason I was not expecting it to be so good.
